JK Rowling has shared the dialog she had with actor Alan Rickman, when she revealed to him the true issues of his character within the Harry Potter films.
Rickman performed Severus Snape, Harry’s instructor and obvious tormentor who ultimately seems to be working for good forces, together with defending Harry in opposition to the likes of Voldermort and his acolytes.
Rowling has recorded an interview for her web site, answering followers’ questions on her writing course of, with a preview transcribed in in the present day’s Times of London. In it, she describes how Rickman was confused concerning the motivations of his character earlier than she defined them to him. She revealed:
“He rang me up and stated, ‘Look, I’m spinning plates right here. I really want to know what Snape’s as much as? Am I a pure baddie?’ He was the one individual I informed: ‘You were in love with Harry’s mom.’
“I talked him through it: ‘You are a double agent. But you do dislike Harry. You can’t overcome your quite visceral dislike of this boy who looks just like your arch enemy.’ So I told Alan Rickman what was coming, way before it came in the movies.”
Rickman, who died in 2016, performed Snape in all eight of the flicks of the bestselling ebook sequence. Snape was certainly one of a number of most important figures to be ultimately killed off, and Rowling shared her misery at having to get rid of characters she had created:
