Who Is Alex Padilla?
Padilla is a Democratic senator from California and an outspoken critic of Trump. He has held his senior U.S. senator seat within the state since 2021. Prior to this, Padilla served as California’s Secretary of State from 2015 to 2021.
Born and raised in L.A., Padilla’s mother and father moved to the City of Angels from Mexico.
Why Was Senator Padilla Arrested?

After the incident, Padilla instructed a bunch of reporters, “If this is how this administration responds to a senator with a question, if this is how the DHS responds to a senator with a question, you can only imagine what they’re doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers, throughout the L.A. community and throughout California and throughout the country. We will hold this administration accountable. We’ll have more to say in the coming days.”
