Another new anime collection has simply been lined up for launch on Netflix globally in 2025. Adapting the e book by Scott Westerfeld and Keith Thompson, Leviathan was formally unveiled at Netflix’s Next on Netflix: Animation occasion in June 2024.
The logline for the brand new collection is as follows:
“In 1914, on the eve of war, a fugitive prince and a girl in disguise meet aboard a bioengineered airship, the HMS Leviathan, and change the course of history.”
As you could have guessed, the present is tailored from Scott Westerfeld’s best-selling 2009 e book Leviathan. This e book spawned a trilogy, with the follow-ups being Behemoth and Goliath. Netflix can also be adapting one other Westerfeld novel within the type of Uglies. That’s getting a US adaptation from director McG and starring Joey King someday in 2024.
As talked about, the animation studio behind the brand new collection is Tokyo-based Orange, which is behind Netflix’s flagship anime collection Beastars. Active on Netflix since its preliminary debut in 2019, Beastars serves as an adaptation of the manga by Paru Itagaki; the collection is heading into its ultimate season, which will likely be break up into two halves, with the primary arriving someday in 2024.
Elsewhere, the studio labored on Godzilla Singular Point solely for Netflix, and it stays laborious at work on Trigun Stampede, which was launched in early January 2023, with extra on the best way.
Christophe Ferreira is the director behind the brand new collection. Reacting to the announcement of the anime on X, he stated:
“Sometimes dreams do come true. I’m thrilled to announce my directorial debut with a new series for Netflix! I extend my thanks to @NetflixJP_Anime and @qubicpictures for this incredible opportunity, as well as to @cg_orange_inc for their outstanding work.”
Justin Leach and Taiki Sakurai function producers on the venture with Joe Hisaishi offering unique songs for the collection with music by Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi.
The collection’ announcement included three first-look footage (one above, two beneath) plus an art work teaser in English and Japanese (the English model might be discovered beneath).
