88 Pocha — Korean informal eatery with corn cheese spicy ramyeon, sausage gimbap & bingsu at Holland Village

For me, hanging out at Holland Village after Sunday bible lessons was once a daily routine. Since then, the place has modified a lot with new eating places and cafes. Adding on to its listing is 88 Pocha, a hip and informal Korean joint which had its grand opening on 28 Mar 2023.

Rachel and I arrived there on a blazing sizzling Wednesday afternoon, and the place jogged my memory of a hip joint for yuppies (like Rachel), not me clearly. The cool area had plastic tables and chairs decked out in blue and crimson with catchy Okay-pop songs blasting via its audio system.

Even although the area was an open idea, it nonetheless felt cool and ethereal inside regardless of the insane temperatures outdoors.

I’m not a fan of tteokbokki, however the Tteokkochi (S$11.88) transformed me. The tteokbokki sticks (10 of them) have been calmly battered and deep fried, after which skewered. A spicy and candy sauce was then artfully drizzled on them.

We additionally tried the Corn Cheese Spice Ramyeon (S$11.88). This was my favorite dish of the afternoon.

88 pocha - corn cheese noodles

It was a bowl of spicy prompt noodles with the right texture (the sort that you simply’re dying to attain with common manufacturers) topped with corn kernels, mozzarella cheese, and sprinkled with seaweed strips and sesame seeds.

My tongue began to burn gently however by the third mouthful, I used to be already accustomed to the warmth. The creamy and stretchy mozzarella helped mellow the spiciness, whereas the golden kernels of corn offered mini bursts of sweetness.

88 pocha - gimbap

The Sausage Gimbap (S$11.88), the Korean model of a Japanese sushi, had a juicy and engaging sausage encased in rice, cheese and seaweed. When I popped them in my mouth, the mild aroma of sesame oil permeated my style buds. I didn’t count on to love it, however I did.

88 pocha - galbi

On first look, the La Galbi (Beef Ribs) (S$18.88 for 8 items) appeared prefer it had been mendacity on the desert for a few hours. But forgive me, I judged method too quickly. It was tender and intensely flavourful, and was a match made in heaven along with the juicy sauteed onions.

You also can order the Potato Pancake (S$15.88) and Red Bean Bingsu (S$12.88) if you’re right here. The former tasted like a denser model of a rösti topped with luxurious pizza cheese.

The latter was an attention-grabbing mixture of crimson bean, fruit loops, rainbow sprinkles, and an entire melon potong ice cream shoved into it.

Come take a look at 88 Pocha for a style of elevated Korean road meals.
