Okay so my mother called me yesterday and asked what I’ve been doing with my life. I told her “research” because that sounds better than “I watched 14 hours of television in three days and I have opinions about it.” She didn’t believe me. But that’s fine. The important thing is: I did the scrolling so you don’t have to. March is absolutely STACKED with new shows and I’ve been watching them like it’s my actual job (it’s not, I’m between things, we don’t need to talk about it). Here’s what’s actually good, what’s messy, and what will ruin your sleep schedule in the best way.
Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat (Prime Video)
Remember that show where they tricked one guy into thinking he was on jury duty and James Marsden played himself and it was the most wholesome chaos ever? They did it again. This time it’s a corporate retreat for a fake hot sauce company called Rockin’ Grandma’s and the main guy Anthony has NO idea that literally everyone around him is an actor . I watched the first two episodes with my roommate and we genuinely had to pause it because we were laughing so hard we couldn’t breathe. One time I snorted. I’m not proud of it but also I kind of am.
The premise is that the founder of Rockin’ Grandma’s is stepping down and the family business is up for grabs and corporate America is trying to ruin everything. Anthony thinks he’s just some temp worker who got dragged to a company retreat. He doesn’t know that his weird colleagues are actors, that the drama is staged, that literally everything happening is designed to see if he’ll become the hero . It’s awkward, it’s hilarious, and it’s giving major “I’m so glad my job is not this chaotic” energy. The actors are committing crimes against comedy in the best way. There’s a scene where one of them has to pretend to be a motivational speaker and it’s the funniest thing I’ve seen since I accidentally sent a work email to the wrong Karen.
Streaming on Prime Video right now and it’s already a top show . Go watch it. Bring snacks.
Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen (Netflix)
The Duffer Brothers—the people who made Stranger Things, the people who made us all terrified of the Upside Down—have a new show. And it’s called Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. Which, honestly, is a mood. I feel that every morning when I open my emails.
The premise is terrifying in the best way: a bride-to-be named Rachel gets engaged to Nicky and it’s supposed to be this dreamy proposal, the kind you see on Instagram and feel bad about your own life. But then things start getting weird. Like, slow-burn nightmare weird. Rachel starts suspecting that walking down the aisle might end in something far more sinister than a wedding vow . I watched the first episode alone at night and had to turn on all the lights in my apartment. My cat knocked something over and I screamed so loud my neighbor texted me to ask if I was okay. I was not okay. But I also couldn’t stop watching.
Camila Morrone stars as Rachel and Adam DiMarco plays Nicky and the chemistry is there but also the creepy is there and you spend the whole time going “aww they’re cute” and then “wait why is he looking at her like that” and then “I need to sleep with the lights on.” It’s from the Duffer Brothers, it’s on Netflix, and it’s going to be everywhere. Watch it with someone. Or don’t. I’m not your mother.
Imperfect Women (Apple TV+)
Elisabeth Moss. Kerry Washington. Kate Mara. Three best friends. One shocking death. Secrets, lies, and betrayals that go back years. If that doesn’t sell you, I don’t know what will.
Imperfect Women is exactly the kind of show you watch when you want to feel like your own life is normal. The premise: these three women have been friends for decades, they seem like they have it all, and then a violent death shatters everything. As the investigation unfolds, we find out that their friendship wasn’t as perfect as it looked . Which, honestly, is true of most friendships. But in this case it involves murder, so that’s fun.
It’s a psychological murder mystery with an incredible cast. Kerry Washington is doing her thing, Elisabeth Moss is doing her thing, Kate Mara is breaking my heart. And the supporting cast? Joel Kinnaman, Corey Stoll, Leslie Odom Jr., Sheryl Lee Ralph. It’s stacked . If you liked The Undoing, if you liked Big Little Lies, if you like watching rich women with terrible secrets unravel on screen, this is your show. It’s on Apple TV+ and it’s currently one of the top shows for a reason.
Beauty in Black Season 2 Part 2 (Netflix)
Tyler Perry did a thing. And it’s messy. And it’s dramatic. And it’s currently the number one show on Netflix right now .
If you haven’t watched Beauty in Black, here’s the deal: it’s about a stripper named Kimmie whose life takes a dangerous turn when she gets tangled up with a wealthy family that runs a hair-care empire. And also a trafficking scheme. And also there’s a murder. And also everyone is betraying everyone. It’s the kind of show where you watch three episodes and suddenly it’s 3am and you have no idea how you got here but you need to know what happens next.
Season 2 Part 2 just dropped and the power struggles are getting out of hand. Kimmie is now married to Horace and she’s the CEO of the family empire but also the family empire is a criminal operation? It’s complicated. People are fighting, secrets are coming out, and I genuinely don’t know who to root for anymore. The cast includes Crystle Stewart, Debbi Morgan, Richard Lawson, and so many more . It’s messy. It’s dramatic. It’s Tyler Perry at his most Tyler Perry. I’m obsessed.
Scrubs (Disney+)
AGAIN I know what you’re thinking. “Ellie, Scrubs is old. Scrubs was my comfort show in high school. Why are you talking about Scrubs?” Because the reboot is here and people are losing it .
Zach Braff and Donald Faison are back. The old gang is back. J.D. and Turk are doing their thing and it’s like no time has passed except it has and now there’s a new generation of interns and everyone is older and wiser and also still making the same jokes . Is it as good as the original? No. Is it scratching the nostalgia itch? Absolutely. It’s one of the top shows on Disney+ right now and if you grew up watching Sacred Heart Hospital, you need to see where everyone is now.
I watched the first episode and immediately texted my brother who I haven’t spoken to about Scrubs in maybe ten years and we spent an hour reminiscing. That’s the power of a good reboot. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to remind you of who you were when you first watched it.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 (Disney+)
Charlie Cox is back as Matt Murdock. Vincent D’Onofrio is back as Kingpin. And Jon Bernthal is back as Frank Castle. If you’re not excited about this, I don’t know what to tell you.
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again picks up with Murdock back in the suit, Kingpin as the mayor of New York, and everything falling apart in the best way. Krysten Ritter is joining this season as Jessica Jones, which means we’re getting a proper Netflix Marvel reunion and I’m not okay about it . The chemistry between these characters was always the best part of the Netflix shows and now they’re all together again. I watched the trailer three times and cried each time. Not because it’s sad. Because I’m emotionally attached to fictional characters who fight crime in red suits.
It’s on Disney+ and it’s going to be huge. If you were ever a Daredevil fan, if you ever loved Jessica Jones, if you ever thought “what if all the Netflix Marvel heroes teamed up” — this is your moment.
BTS: The Comeback Live | Arirang (Netflix)
Look. I’m not even a massive BTS fan. I know maybe three songs. But I watched this live concert special and I get it now. I get why people are obsessed.
After finishing their military service, BTS reunited for a massive live concert in Seoul at Gwanghwamun Square. It was streamed on Netflix and it’s everything you want from a comeback concert: the energy, the fans, the moments where you realize these guys are actually insanely talented . They performed songs from their new album ARIRANG and old hits and the production was incredible. I watched it with my friend who is a huge ARMY and she cried four times. I only cried once but that’s because I’m strong.
If you love BTS, you’ve already watched it. If you don’t know BTS, watch it and you’ll understand the hype. It’s on Netflix and it’s the kind of concert that makes you wish you were there in Seoul screaming with 200,000 other people.
The Pitt Season 2 (HBO Max)
Noah Wyle is back in a hospital and he’s stressed. The Pitt is basically ER if ER was filmed on a GoPro and nobody slept. Each episode is one hour of a fifteen-hour ER shift and it is intense.
Season 2 is set on the Fourth of July which in hospital world means “everyone has set something on fire and also there’s a cyberattack happening and also someone’s ex shows up” . It’s the top show on HBO Max right now and for good reason. If you liked The Night Shift, if you liked Chicago Med, if you liked feeling anxious about the healthcare system while eating chips, this is your show. Three episodes and you’ll feel like you’ve saved lives and also like you need a nap.
The Ellie Final Word
There’s too much TV. We all know this. I spent a week of my life watching all of this so you don’t have to. My eyes are tired. My watch history is a mess. I have opinions about things I never thought I’d have opinions about. But these are the ones actually worth your time.
If you watch one thing from this list, make it Jury Duty if you need to laugh, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen if you want to be scared, or Beauty in Black if you want to turn your brain off and just feel things.
My mother called me yesterday and asked what I’ve been doing and I said “watching TV for work” and she said “that’s not a real job” and I said “tell that to my 47 streaming subscriptions.”
Now put your phone down. Open your laptop. Pick one. I promise it’s better than rewatching The Office again. Unless you’re rewatching The Office. That’s always valid. I’m currently on my ninth rewatch. No judgment.
