NFL 2025: Updated Super Bowl LX Contenders After Week Six

Week six of the 2025 NFL season has seen what once seemed like a two-horse race for Super Bowl LX blown wide open. Both the reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles and the preseason favorite Buffalo Bills were flying high a fortnight ago, both holding a perfect record of four wins from four. What a difference a couple of weeks makes.

Nick Sirianni’s Birds headed to MetLife Stadium to face the Giants, reeling from a surprise home defeat to the Denver Broncos. As they made the journey home after suffering a shocking second straight defeat to their rivals, the big news was less about them and more about the G Men. The popular Bodog News Canada site focused on the story of the Giants’ new rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart, stealing the show at MetLife, leading his side to a stunning victory and ushering in a new era and perhaps even a return to the glory days.

The Eagles, meanwhile, headed back to the City of Brotherly Love licking their wounds, and they weren’t the only heavyweights to suffer such a fate. The Bills have fumbled their way through an equally jarring tumble, first felled by the Patriots and then outplayed by the surging Atlanta Falcons to fall to 4-2, prompting the bookies to recalibrate their odds lists as we head into the second-third of the season. So, with these two titans falling, who has risen to claim the throne? Let’s take a look.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have been the league’s dynasty for the past seven years, reaching five Super Bowls and claiming three Lombardi Trophies. However, they stumbled out of the gate in 2025, losing their opening two games for the first time during the Patrick Mahomes era… but they have since fought back.

A resounding 30-17 victory against NFC contenders Detroit saw KC return to the dominant force we have come to know over the last eight years. MVP candidate Mahomes, already a two-time winner of the coveted award, engineered a poised offensive attack, with his side now averaging 25.8 points per game, good for 9th in the league, but hinting at an even higher ceiling.

Stats tell the story of a franchise regaining its edge: Football Power Indexes place the reigning AFC champions at the summit on current form, and the bookies have also responded. Top betting outlets have slashed odds on the Chiefs claiming a third Lombardi in four years down to +750, and it seems that the dynasty isn’t finished just yet.

Buffalo Bills

Record: 4-2. Outlook: Unsettled. In the cold heart of Buffalo, there’s unease. What began as a campaign of promise has veered off course, marred by injuries and defensive cracks big enough for opposing offenses to exploit. Yet the Bills are fourth in the NFL for points scored (27.8 per game), largely thanks to reigning MVP Josh Allen’s spellbinding magic.

However, the former University of Wyoming sensation can’t do it all on his own. In week six, the Bills headed to lowly Atlanta without a slew of Allen’s primary weapons. The result? The Falcons dominated, with Bijan Robinson racking up over 170 yards in a one-sided 24-14 victory. That, coupled with the loss to the Patriots in week five, has set the alarm bells ringing at Highmark Stadium.

But while the Bills Mafia might be panicking, the power rankings aren’t just yet and refuse to budge. They list Buffalo among the league’s elite at No. 4, but the narrative has changed. Last year’s AFC Championship run raised expectations, and now the pressure is to fix defensive miscues and prove they can win tight games when it matters most.

The Bills haven’t reached the Big Game since shockingly losing four on the bounce in the 1990s. They remain in contention to end that barren spell in 2025, but should this rough patch continue, those hopes will soon evaporate.

Detroit Lions

Last season, the Detroit Lions roared to a 15-2 finish to claim a second straight NFC North crown. This term, they’ve opened at 4-2—still formidable, but with fresh challenges. Their offense remains orchestrated by Jared Goff and has picked up exactly where it left off last season, dazzling with 191 points so far, second in the league behind the upstart Colts. But a sobering Week Six defeat to the Chiefs reminded Motor City’s finest that there are no easy runs to the title.

Still, the metrics inspire confidence. The latest FPIs hand them an 84% shot at the playoffs and a 55% probability of recapturing the NFC North. Roaring into the top four of most power rankings, the Lions remain a major threat, so long as their defense tightens against the NFL’s best. Still, we all remember last season’s divisional round shocker against Washington, and the Lions will be aware that they need to be at their very best if they are to turn regular-season dominance into a genuine Lombardi challenge.
