Well, pour one out for our favorite food-loving cop, Angel Batista. In the latest episode of Dexter: Resurrection, he finally found someone who would listen to his theory about Dexter Morgan. Unfortunately for him, it was the absolute worst person on Earth.
The Setup: Dinner and Danger
The episode picked up right where the last one left off. Billionaire psycho Leon Prater (played by Peter Dinklage) crashed Dexter’s awkward father-son dinner with Harrison. While Dexter managed to drag Leon outside to talk, the damage was done—Leon had already gotten some juicy info from Harrison.
Meanwhile, Angel Batista was watching the whole thing from a distance, snapping photos like a true-crime paparazzi. He knew something was up.
Family Drama and Interrogations
Back home, Dexter had to come clean to Harrison about Leon’s serial killer fan club and how he… uh… “took out the trash.” Instead of being horrified, Harrison was kinda impressed. (Kids these days, right?)
Later, Leon’s scary right-hand woman, Charley (Uma Thurman), showed up at Harrison’s work to interrogate him about his past. Harrison handled it like a pro and immediately told Dexter, who decided to pay Charley a little visit of his own.
He discovered she’s a decorated army vet with a sick mom, and Leon is using her mom’s illness to control her. Dexter used his classic “Dark Passenger” intimidation tactics to scare her off, but it totally backfired. She ran straight to Leon, who was thrilled. He saw it as Dexter wanting to “keep playing the game.”
Angel’s Last Stand
While all this was going on, poor Angel was trying to convince the NYPD that Dexter Morgan, the nice-looking blood spatter analyst from Miami, was actually the infamous Bay Harbor Butcher. They didn’t just not believe him—they took his badge and told him to get lost.
But Angel, being the good cop he is, spotted an ad for Leon’s gala, recognized his face, and stormed right over to his mansion. After a scuffle with security, he actually got Leon and Charley to listen. And for the first time, someone believed him!
The Trap is Sprung
This was all part of Leon’s master plan. When Dexter showed up for their meeting, he was disarmed and led into a giant vault. Inside was Angel, tied up and gagged.
Leon then made Dexter a truly messed-up offer: in exchange for letting Leon’s serial killer club keep operating (and providing Dexter with a never-ending supply of victims), Dexter had to kill Angel right then and there. The “price of admission.”
Dexter actually considered it! His logic was, “Angel knows the truth, he’ll never stop, and rule number one is don’t get caught.”
But in a shocking move, Dexter cut Angel’s ropes instead. A freed Angel immediately went for Dexter’s throat, and for a second, Dexter seemed ready to accept his fate. But Leon, being a terrible party host, shot Angel in the back and locked Dexter in the vault with his dying friend.
The Final, Brutal Words
As Angel lay dying, Dexter tried his best apology tour: “I didn’t kill Doakes! I didn’t kill LaGuerta!”
Angel wanted none of it. His last words were the perfect, brutal send-off for the friend who betrayed him: “Dexter Morgan, fk you.”**
And just like that, the one guy who knew the whole truth is gone. Now Dexter is trapped in a vault, has a billionaire serial killer as his nemesis, and has absolutely no one left to help him. How’s he gonna get out of this one? We’ll have to wait for the finale to find out.
Dexter: Resurrection airs Fridays on Paramount+ With Showtime.
