Sports Broadcasting Legend Passes Away at 78

Broadcasting legend Greg Gumbel has handed away at 78.

News of Gumbel’s loss of life comes courtesy of a press release issued by his spouse, Marcy Gumbel, and his daughter, Michelle Gumbel.

Greg Gumbel’s Cause of Death Revealed

The household revealed immediately that Gumbel handed away after battling most cancers.

“He passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer,” the assertion reads. “Greg approached his sickness like one would count on he would, with stoicism, grace and positivity.

“He leaves behind a legacy of love inspiration and dedication to over 50 extraordinary years in the sports broadcast industry; and his iconic voice will never be forgotten,” the Gumbels advised CBS Sports.

The earliest public indication of Gumbel’s sickness got here in March, when he missed his first NCAA match since 1997.

According to ESPN, Gumbel attributed his absence to “family health issues.”

A Legendary Career

Over the course of his 50-year profession, Gumbel broke limitations and have become synonymous with among the sports activities world’s greatest occasions.

In 2001, he grew to become the primary Black broadcaster to ship play-by-play at a significant US sports activities championship, when he introduced Super Bowl XXXV for CBS.

David Berson, president and CEO of CBS Sports, sang Gumbel’s praises immediately in a press release issued to ESPN.

“A tremendous broadcaster and gifted storyteller, Greg led one of the most remarkable and groundbreaking sports broadcasting careers of all time,” stated Berson.

Greg Gumbel is survived by his spouse and daughter, in addition to a number of siblings, together with fellow broadcaster Bryant Gumbel.
