Lionsgate will deal with U.S. distribution of eagerly awaited “Greenland” sequel “Greenland: Migration,” Variety can affirm.
STX, which has a distribution partnership with Lionsgate, is dealing with worldwide distribution.
Directed by Ric Roman Waugh (“Greenland,” “Angel Has Fallen”) from a screenplay by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune, “Greenland: Migration” sees Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin return as John and Allison Garrity. Along with their diabetic son Nathan, the couple had been compelled to flee within the first movie as a comet hurtled in the direction of earth, threatening to destroy the planet. In the sequel the household embark on a dangerous journey throughout what’s left of Europe to discover a new house.
Butler and Baccarin are joined by Roman Griffin Davis (“Jojo Rabbit”), Amber Rose Revah (“The Punisher”) and Trond Fausa (“Oppenheimer”) within the movie, which is produced by Anton, STX Entertainment, Thunder Road Pictures and Butler’s G-BASE Entertainment.
“In the film, the Garrity family, having found the safety of the Greenland bunker after the comet Clarke decimated the Earth, must risk everything to embark on a harrowing journey across the wasteland of Europe to find a new home,” reads the logline.
Currently in manufacturing, the venture is about to shoot on location within the U.Okay. and Iceland.
Despite being launched theatrically on the top of the COVID-19 pandemic in the summertime of 2020, “Greenland” dominated the field workplace throughout 26 nations, grossing over $52 million internationally. In the U.S. it debuted on PVOD earlier than transferring to Max.

“Greenland: Migration” is totally financed by Anton. Lionsgate and STX purchased the movie for the U.S. whereas STX purchased the world.
