A 41-year-old man is lacking after he went overboard from a Norwegian cruise ship on Friday throughout a heavy metal-themed “Headbangers Boat” journey en path to Miami, Fla.
The unnamed man went overboard whereas the Norwegian Pearl was crusing close to the Bahamas early Friday.
A spokesperson from Norwegian Cruise Line stated regional authorities have been instantly notified of the incident and the U.S. Coast Guard started a search. The passenger was not discovered, and the search was referred to as off after 9 hours.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we will share updates as appropriate. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time,” stated the Norwegian Pearl spokesperson.
The Headbangers Boat, which started its voyage from Miami on Oct. 31, was a five-day “high seas headbanging” tour. Cruisegoers journeyed to Nassau, Bahamas, as many well-liked heavy metallic teams — together with Mastodon, Hatebreed and GWAR — soundtracked the expedition with energetic dwell performances.
The Norwegian Pearl made its scheduled return to Miami on Nov. 4, solely sooner or later after the passenger went overboard.
Lamb of God, a Grammy-nominated metallic group that headlined the Headbangers Boat, informed the style publication Metal Injection the band members have been “deeply saddened” by the information of the lacking passenger.
The band stated they’re “sending love and light” to the person’s relations and family members after the ” tragic incident.”
The U.S. Coast Guard has not commented on the incident.
According to a 2020 report from the Cruise Lines International Association, the percentages of going overboard are unlikely.
From 2009 to 2019, there have been 212 folks reported overboard, with 48 of these passengers efficiently rescued. Year-over-year, there was a “significant decline” in each the variety of overboard incidents and the variety of fatalities.
