Join us for a night remembering the late professor of theatre, creator and translator, Marion Peter Holt, Professor Emeritus (Theatre, Graduate Center, and Spanish, College of Staten Island). Holt helped to unfold data of Catalan and Spanish drama all through the United States and the world.
A Professor Emeritus of Theatre on the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and a member of the Real Academia Española since 1986, he translated into English such main authors as Àngels Aymar, Sergi Belbel, Josep Maria Benet i Jornet, Marta Buchaca, Lluïsa Cunillé, Guillem Clua, and José M. RodrÃguez-Mendez. In 1986 he was elected a corresponding member of Spain’s Real Academia Española. Many of the translations have been printed by The Martin E. Segal Center Publication ring.
Holt has been a visiting professor on the Yale School of Drama, Hunter College, and Barcelona’s Institut del Teatre. Ph.D. University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign. Publications embody: The Contemporary Spanish Theatre: 1949-1972 (1975), Antonio Buero-Vallejo: Three Plays (1985) (a Choice Outstanding University Press choice), DramaContemporary: Spain (1985), and Magical Places: the Story of Spartanburg’s Theatres and Their Entertainments: 1900-1950 (2004). His translations of up to date Spanish and Catalan performs have been staged in New York and London, in Australia, and by regional and college theatres all through the United States.
