The History of Brokeback Mountain‘s Success

Proulx’s story about cowboys pressured to hold on a love affair in secret for many years was beforehand tailored into a movie in 2005. Made on a reported funds of $14 million, Brokeback Mountain took residence greater than $178 million worldwide and was nominated for eight Oscars, together with performing nods for Ledger, Gyllenhall, and Williams. It finally gained three Academy Awards, for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay (for Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana), and Best Score (Gustavo Santaolalla). Although the film was a cultural sensation that’s now thought-about probably the greatest Western romance motion pictures ever made, producers of the stage adaptation have pressured that their manufacturing can be primarily based completely on Proulx’s authentic story and never Lee’s movie model.

Hedges will subsequent be seen in Shirley, Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave screenwriter John Ridley’s movie about Shirley Chisholm, America’s first Black congresswoman (not too long ago portrayed by Wanda Sykes for History of the World, Part II… though Ridley’s film will presumably be much less comedic). Faist, in the meantime, has accomplished manufacturing on two high-profile movie tasks: The Bikeriders, written and directed by Jeff Nichols (Loving) and co-starring Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer and Austin Butler; and Challengers, a brand new movie from acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name) by which he stars reverse Zendaya.

The play adaptation will start its run on the Soho Place Theatre in London on May 10.
