Illegal gold mining on the rise within the Venezuelan Amazon 


According to satellite tv for pc imagery, over 750 hectares of Yacapana National Park within the Venezuelan Amazon had been deforested between 2021 and 2022 – all for unlawful gold mining.

This is in line with information from the Monitoring of the Andean Amazon Project (MAAP) of the US-based non-governmental group (NGO) Amazon Conservation, offered on January 9.

“The regime can hardly declare that it doesn’t understand that so many hectares have been destroyed and this isn’t occurring,” stated Emiliano Terán, a researcher on the Center for Development Studies on the Central University of Venezuela.
