Spoilers forward…
In ‘Kammatipaadam’, Rajeev Ravi took a difficulty and wove a “story” round it. Now, in ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ and ‘Thuramukham’, the problems *are* the story. He’s weaving tapestries of a selected place, a selected time.
Stylistically talking, Rajeev Ravi’s Thuramukham will be seen as a companion piece to his earlier movie, Kuttavum Shikshayum. The latter was a police drama – an interstate cops-and-robbers story – that ditched straightforward thrills for rock-solid procedural element. It was not a glamorous script about supercops. We bought to see, step by incremental step, what an investigation is admittedly like. In Thuramukham, we get to see what the constructing of a employees’ motion is admittedly like. Again, Rajeev (together with his author, Gopan Chidambaran) resists easy glamorisation. This will not be concerning the making of a hero who single-handedly made the motion. The movie is about solidarity (“all of us will be equal”) and thus, everyone seems to be a hero. You don’t get the total grasp of this incremental design till you see that the rousing speech on the finish is given not by the characters performed by Nivin Pauly or Arjun Ashokan or Indrajith Sukumaran, however by another person, somebody who registered, earlier, as a minor participant. It’s like how a tail-ender would possibly find yourself saving a match after the star batsmen have fallen.
