The Timorese ministries of Education and Higher Education wish to make it necessary that instruction within the nation’s training system be solely in Portuguese and that different languages be “auxiliary” and supportive.
“The two ministries are proposing adjustments to the fundamental regulation on training, and the proposal is that the language of instruction is just Portuguese. Tetum and different nationwide languages will function auxiliary languages and pedagogical help when crucial,” mentioned the Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, Armindo Maia.
