Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre have introduced principal casting for his or her forthcoming manufacturing of the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical Once On This Island (10 May-10 June).

Gabrielle Brooks (Get Up Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical, Olivier Award Nomination) will play the central function of Ti Moune with Stephenson Ardern-Sodje (Hamilton) as Daniel.

Directed by Ola Ince, Once On This Island has a e book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, and relies on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy. The authentic West End manufacturing received Best New Musical on the Olivier Awards when it premiered in 1995 and the latest Broadway revival received the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival in 2018.

A narrative of affection, grief, religion and hope, Once On This Island tells of peasant woman Ti Moune, a boy referred to as Daniel, and a union that prejudice forbids. Against the warmth of the Caribbean solar and destruction of tropical storms, can Ti Moune settle the wager of the Gods, and show that love is extra highly effective than loss of life?

Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s 2023 season additionally consists of Ben Okri’s Every Leaf A Hallelujah (22 May – 10 June), tailored by Chinonyerem Odimba for ages 4+ and their households, carried out on the Theatre Lawn.
