In the inside of the state of Minas Gerais, the city of Serra da Saudade has been for 10 years and not using a single report of robberies and murders.
According to knowledge from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the city has the smallest inhabitants within the nation.
IBGE estimates present that the city with out robberies and murders has lower than 900 inhabitants.
Serra da Saudade is about 300 kilometers from Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais.
According to Alaor José Machado (PP), the small variety of residents permits everybody to know one another.
“Because it is a small town, you could say that Serra da Saudade is one big family, and everyone has a certain closeness, affection, and respect for each other, and this is also a factor for everyone to live in harmony”, mentioned the politician in an interview to G1.
However, he doesn’t dismiss the position of the Military Police (PM).
“In our municipality, the PM acts ostensibly, mainly, concerning public safety, curbing crime,” he commented.
“We recently had a bank robbery in a neighboring town, and the criminals came to hide here. The police acted in time and to our satisfaction, arresting everyone involved. Therefore, the PM is the main and only one to stand as the guardian of our society.”
