James Beard Awards 2023 Semifinalists: Miami Chefs and Restaurateurs Recognized in Nine Categories

The James Beard Foundation introduced the semifinalists within the restaurant and chef classes for 2023, and South Florida has been acknowledged a number of instances. Fourteen native cooks and institutions have been acknowledged for exemplary achievement within the culinary area in 9 classes.

Niven Patel, a previous Beard semifinalist, was acknowledged this 12 months for his Alpareno Restaurant Group, together with accomplice Mohamed Ali Alkassar within the Outstanding Restaurateur class. Together, they personal and function Ghee Indian Kitchen, Orno, and Mamey.

The Beard Foundation acknowledged a few of Miami’s longstanding culinary expertise with Ariete (Outstanding Restaurant), Michael Schwartz (Outstanding Chef), Zak the Baker (Outstanding Bakery), Macchialina (Outstanding Wine Program), Cafe la Trova (Outstanding Bar), and Manuel and Jesús Brazón, Caracas Bakery (Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker) getting nods.

Finally, South Florida has a number of cooks nominated for the “Best Chef: South” class together with Timon Balloo (the Katherine, Fort Lauderdale); Jeremy and Cindy Bearman (Oceano Kitchen, Lantana); Fernando, Nando and Valerie Chang (Itamae, Miami); Rick Mace (Tropical Smokehouse, West Palm Beach); Pushkar Marathe (Stage, Palm Beach Gardens); and Lojo Washington (Queen of Sheeba, West Palm Beach).

The Beard awards have gone by means of some modifications over the previous few years. Last 12 months, the muse re-examined its insurance policies to “take away bias, enhance transparency and accessibility, and make this system extra aligned with the Foundation’s mission and values.”
