DGA Awards Film Noms: Zero Women Up for the Top Honor, But They Dominate First-Time Director Category

The Directors Guild of America has introduced the administrators competing for the highest function movie prize at its seventy fifth annual DGA Awards, and nil of the nominees are ladies: potential contenders like Gina Prince-Bythewood (“The Woman King”) and Sarah Polley (“Women Talking”) have been shut out of the race.

Women dominate the First-Time Feature Film Prize class, accounting for 4 of 5 nominees. Up for honors are Alice Diop for “Saint Omer,” the story of a author attending the trial of a lady accused of infanticide; Audrey Diwan for “Happening,” a portrait of a lady attempting to get an abortion in France earlier than the process was legalized; Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic for “Murina,” a coming-of-age story a few teen who’s drawn towards’s her father’s good friend; and Charlotte Wells for “Aftersun,” a drama centering round a trip a pre-teen woman takes along with her single father.
