New York City has all the time been a gathering and buying and selling place for a lot of Indigenous peoples, the place Native Nations intersected from all 4 instructions since time immemorial. It was a spot to assemble and generally to hunt refuge throughout occasions of battle and wrestle. My household first got here to New York City within the late 1800’s from Virginia and purchased a home in Brooklyn and raised 4 generations. This story is about my household’s blood stream that’s right here on this land of New York City. How we as a household needed to preserve custom alive. The survival of genocide, relocation, the boarding college system, and the outlaw by the United States authorities that we couldn’t follow our cultural traditions. The story is about my household’s triumph of will, dysfunction, and historic trauma via laughter. My private tapestry of tales being introduced up in Brooklyn in a Mafia-run neighborhood once we had been the one Natives on the block. And this is only one Tipi Tale of the town.
