Director Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden made a splash when Marvel Studios employed them to helm “Captain Marvel,” the primary MCU movie to boast a serious feminine superhero within the lead position. While Fleck and Boden received’t return for “The Marvels,” it appears the duo’s subsequent venture will likely be rather more grounded. Deadline stories that Fleck and Boden group up once more for “Freaky Tales,” a coming-of-age story set in late ’80s Oakland.

“Freaky Tales” boasts a formidable solid, too, with Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Jay Ellis, Jack Champion, and Angus Cloud on board. Dominique Thorne, Keir Gilchrist, and Michelle Farrah Huang may even star within the upcoming movie. Fleck and Boden and Mendelsohn final labored collectively on “Captain Marvel.”
Set in 1987, “Freaky Tales” takes inspiration from Fleck’s expertise rising up within the Bay Area.
