An aspiring author finds herself on the heart of a stranger-than-fiction story in “Kindred,” FX’s long-awaited Octavia Butler adaptation. “I was here, and then suddenly I wasn’t here,” says Dana (newcomer Mallori Johnson) in a brand new teaser for the sci-fi collection. The younger Black lady is being pulled forwards and backwards between the current day and Antebellum occasions.
The spot sees Dana being ripped from her dwelling in LA to a plantation in Maryland, the place she’s chased and bodily attacked. “I don’t understand what’s happening to me. Am I crazy?” she asks.
“Kindred” was printed in 1979.
The recipient of two Nebula awards and two Hugo awards, Butler’s different books embody “Parable of the Sower” and “Dawn.”
“Kindred” launches December 13 solely on Hulu. “Zola” writer-director Janicza Bravo helmed the pilot.
