Johnny Depp and his authorized group have formally filed an attraction of Amber Heard‘s US$2-million counterclaim win, alleging the decision in favour of his ex-wife was “erroneous.”
In the 44-page attraction filed in Virginia on Wednesday, Depp and his legal professionals declare Heard’s partial win from the defamation trial, which concluded in June, must be overturned.

Neither Depp nor Heard has commented publicly on the attraction.
Depp, 59, sued Heard, 36, for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she penned for the Washington Post, during which she referred to herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” The seven-person jury dominated in favour of Depp and awarded the actor $10 million in damages.
Heard was awarded $2 million in a beneficial ruling on one in all her three countersuit claims. In the countersuit, Heard and her legal professionals alleged Depp was “vicariously liable” for 3 statements made by the actor’s former lawyer, Adam Waldman, to British tabloid The Daily Mail.
The defamatory Waldman assertion claimed Heard and her buddies offered police with a “hoax” of abuse claims towards Depp in 2016. The jury dominated that when Waldman made the libellous assertion, he was performing as a consultant for Depp.
In the attraction, Depp’s legal professionals declare “Ms. Heard presented no evidence at trial that Mr. Depp was personally involved in directing or making any of the three Waldman Statements.”
The attraction continues: “Indeed, Mr. Depp testified that he had never even seen the Waldman Statements prior to the filing of the Counterclaim in August of 2020.”
Depp’s legal professionals claimed Waldman acted independently of his shopper when he engaged in “tortious conduct.”
The attraction urged the court docket to reverse the counterclaim verdict however “otherwise affirm the judgment in Mr. Depp’s favor.”
A request from Heard’s authorized group for a mistrial was denied in July.
In an announcement following the choice, a spokesperson for Heard claimed “the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment.”
Heard vowed to file an attraction of her personal.
“While we realize today’s filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice,” mentioned Heard’s spokesperson.
