Lydia Johnson Dance NY Season 2022


Lydia Johnson Dance (LJD) is happy to announce its New York Season 2022, from September 15-17, at New York Live Arts, with an ensemble of 10 in three premieres by Lydia Johnson, all created all through the pandemic between shut-downs and Covid outbreaks. The Company welcomes the return of Craig Hall, former soloist and present Ballet Master of New York City Ballet, as visitor artist in Johnson’s new Time…and once more.

Johnson will premiere Time…and once more, created for Hall and LJD principal Laura Di Orio. Set to jazz requirements performed by Oscar Peterson, the duet is full of magnificence and romance, seen relatively wistfully via the present post-pandemic temper.

For Eli (premiere) was commissioned by visible artist Laura Lou Levy as a memorial to her late son Eli, and is danced to music by Chopin that Eli performed earlier than his premature dying. The work has no clear plot, however relatively alludes to components in Eli’s life and household.

Glide Path (premiere) is certainly one of Johnson’s extra summary items. Creating a way of time passing and of communities and relationships shifting, the piece is anchored within the music of the adventurous string quartet ETHEL.

The Company will reprise Johnson’s widespread 2018 Undercurrent, a collection ending with a vibrant neighborhood dance paying homage to village folks dance. As in all of her items, Johnson, lauded for her distinctive musicality, hyperlinks her motion to the music of certainly one of her most inspiring composers, Henryk Gorecki.
