Gotham Award Nominations: “Aftersun,” “What We Leave Behind,” & More


Gotham Award nominations are in. Charlotte Wells’ function debut, “Aftersun,” a glance inside a father and daughter’s seaside trip, is up for Best Feature. It’s the only woman-directed movie competing for the night time’s prime honor.

Five titles are within the working for Best Documentary Feature and two of them are helmed by girls: Lauras Poitras’ “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” a portrait of artist Nan Goldin and her mission to carry the Sackler household accountable for the opioid disaster, and Iliana Sosa’s “What We Leave Behind,” a tribute to the director’s grandfather that chronicles his efforts to construct a home in rural Mexico.
