Thirty-six years after Diego Maradona helped Argentina beat Germany to carry the World Cup in Mexico Metropolis, the shirt he wore within the sport has returned to his homeland.
Germany’s Lothar Matthaeus, who swapped shirts with Maradona, donated the jersey to the Argentine embassy in Madrid in August and it was handed over to the nation’s soccer affiliation (AFA) by collector Marcelo Ordas on Wednesday.
“I wish to thanks, Marcelo, for having introduced us this armour. An essential armour for all of Argentine soccer. This shirt allowed us to hug one another after we received the title of Mexico,” AFA president Claudio Tapia mentioned in a press release.
