Solange Knowles opened True, her daring and luminous 2012 EP, with a query that’s each deceptively easy and heartbreakingly naive: “Tell me the truth boy, am I losing you for good?” It’s a rhetorical query, one which feels unusual to listen to spoken aloud. If somebody is within the strategy of falling out of affection with you, it’s maybe unrealistic to count on them to be so open about these emotions in actual time. But the query is emblematic of the type of fact Solange is trying to find on this document: trustworthy even to the purpose of being unreasonable, a requirement for a deeper fact inside herself and everybody round her.
