Dear Grif-friend,

It’s been an extended, chilly and remarkably moist winter right here on Gadigal lands, unusually so, and we’re rising out of our burrows like so many possums, blinking into the solar and shaking the mud off our coats. The bottle brush tree outdoors my flat is completely brimming with buds and a brand new season awaits.

Speaking about seasons…  it’s that point of the 12 months once more once we put together to unwrap our oh-so-carefully nurtured 2026 Season of latest and returning Australian performs for our season launch on Monday 8 September.

Like so many flowers, able to bloomeach budding theatre manufacturing guarantees one thing new and thrillingwill they unfurl into one thing delicate and perfumed like an orchid. Or will or not it’s one thing humongous and spear-ready like a large gymea lily (who to this Yorta Yorta/Gunaikurnai girl appears to have landed from outer house). Or will or not it’s a superb generally spikey callistemon dripping with honey and able to be devoured by so many little birdsexcellent fairy wrens, wattlebirds, silver eyes, yellow throated honey eaters, rainbow lorikeets and brown thornbills

Speaking of birds… ten factors for these of you who braved the torrential rains to attend Nathan Harrison’s Birdsong of Tomorrow. What a deal with it was to sit down within the nest-like communal consolation of the Old Fitz Theatre to bear witness to Nathan’s heartfelt love tune to birds, mates, Mother earth and the whole lot in between. Nurtured by Griffin’s Studio program, we’re so proud to see Nathan’s work take flight with a genius lo-fi remount that speaks so superbly to the center of this completely pleasant present.

Tickets to Birdsong of Tomorrow are as uncommon as a pezoporus occidentalis (night time parrot)and birds of a feather actually do flock collectivelyso we’ve prolonged the season!  Get in fast to snaffle a ticket to this chic present that may really soften your coronary heart.

Speaking of melting hearts… I had the good privilege of sitting in on the photoshoot for the upcoming remount of Dylan Van Den Berg’s Whitefella Yella Tree and the chemistry between Joseph Althouse (Pertame Tiwi) and Danny Howard (Barrd Yamatji Noongar Bunuba Ngadju) was palpable.  If you missed out on this present when it performed on the Stables in 2022; Griffin has taken to the waterside with our pals at Sydney Theatre Company to deliver you this beautiful two-hander as soon as once more.

What a fantastic alternative it’s for theatremakers to have one other crack at remounting a presentand let’s face it, theatre makers are perfectionistsso that you may be assured a contemporary viewers expertise every time a present evolves.

That’s the sweetness and magic of theatre.

See you quickly,
Andrea
