Prince Harry won’t be able to increase his telephone hacking lawsuit towards News Group Newspapers to incorporate Rupert Murdoch and Piers Morgan, the UK’s High Court has dominated.
Mr Justice Fancourt dominated on Tuesday that particular person allegations towards Murdoch and Morgan weren’t “material” to the case, which is on the right track to go to trial in January 2025.
Prince Harry and 40 others are suing News Group Newspapers, which publishes The Sun newspaper and shuttered News of the World, over allegations of telephone hacking and illegal data gathering. The writer denies the allegations.
Fancourt stated he was blocking the plaintiffs’ need to incorporate “trophy targets” within the authorized proceedings, including that this can’t be an “an end in itself.”
Murdoch owns News Group Newspapers, whereas Morgan — who has a bitter and ongoing feud with Prince Harry — was the editor of the News of the World for round two years from 1994.
In a press release, News Group Newspapers stated: “The court in its judgment today has thoroughly vindicated NGN’s position and did not give permission to introduce large and significant portions of the amendments … NGN welcomes the judge’s decisions and comments.”
The Duke of Sussex’s attorneys have been granted permission in precept to call and make allegations towards “certain further journalists and private investigators.”
