Goldendale, Washington singer-songwriter Margo Cilker’s debut Pohorylle made it onto our listing of the most effective nation albums of 2021. Today she’s introduced the follow-up. Valley Of Heart’s Delight isn’t coming till September, however immediately we get to listen to its opening observe, “Lowland Trail.” It’s a sensible little bit of writing that principally simply repeats the chorus “I’m lookin’ for a lowland trail” however at one level cuts to the center of the matter: “Got trouble cropping up where there could have been love/ I’ve seen it on a lowland trail/ You put it all on the line and it wasn’t enough/ Better take it to a lowland trail.”
Cilker’s assertion on the brand new LP:
I wrote these songs surrounded by the wild landscapes of the Northwest, however I used to be leaning towards the place I’d come from. I felt lower off from my household and the valley that held them. I spent hours fascinated with my sense of belonging. I’d traveled by many locations after which, when the journey stopped, I ruminated on the place I had ended up. Where had been you when the music stopped? I used to be in Enterprise, OR. And there in Enterprise, my thoughts drifted again to the Valley of Heart’s Delight.
I wrote about household — about dying and rebirth, and the arcs of affection and artwork by a household line. There are songs that trace at missteps and redemption. There are songs about bushes: in orchard rows, household bushes, redwoods. And water: agricultural runoff, wild rivers, dammed rivers, baptismal flows. And there’s a [cover] track a few fish, trigger it’s a rattling good track and I needed to document it.
