I wasn’t trying ahead to seeing Till and being reminded of the horrific destiny that befell a 14-year-old black boy in Mississippi again in 1964. I hadn’t reckoned with the worldview of director and co-writer Chinonye Chukyu, who selected to not depict Emmett Till’s unspeakably violent loss of life and determined as a substitute to inform the story by way of the eyes of his mom Mamie.
