NEW HAVEN, CONN.:<\/strong> Yale Repertory Theatre has named 4 newly commissioned artists. With help from the Binger Center for New Theatre<\/a>, Yale Rep will develop new works by\u00a0Guadal\u00eds Del Carmen<\/a>\u00a0(Bees and Honey<\/em>),\u00a0Dave Harris<\/a>\u00a0(Tambo & Bones<\/em>),\u00a0Rachel Lynett<\/a>\u00a0[Apologies to Lorraine Hansberry (You Too August Wilson<\/em>)], and\u00a0Sanaz Toossi<\/a>\u00a0(English<\/em>).<\/p>\n In a press release, creative director\u00a0James Bundy known as this group of writers \u201camong the most adventurous and singular voices working today in the American theatre\u2026Their work undoubtedly will advance our art form into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n Yale Rep additional introduced that Dave Harris would be the inaugural and first recipient of three annual Peter Shaffer Commissions, which help work of serious scope, and are made attainable by a beneficiant reward from the\u00a0Sir Peter Shaffer Charitable Foundation.<\/p>\n Under the management of affiliate AD and director of recent play applications Jennifer Kiger, the Binger Center has supported the work of greater than 70 artists with commissions, residencies, readings, and workshops. Each growth course of is tailor-made to the artist\u2019s wants and may happen in New Haven, Connecticut, or New York City. The Binger Center compensates artists for all developmental actions with charges for rehearsals, housing, and journey. This compensation is paid along with fee charges and\/or royalties. In addition to the assets provided within the early phases of the event of a fee, the Binger Center has underwritten the premieres and subsequent productions of greater than 30 new performs and musicals at Yale Rep.<\/p>\n Guadal\u00eds Del Carmen is a playwright and screenwriter from Chicago, based mostly in New York City. She\u2019s an Ars Nova<\/a> resident artist and a 2020 Steinberg Playwriting Award recipient. She\u2019s the founder and co-artistic director of the Latinx Playwrights Circle<\/a>. Her performs embody\u00a0Not For Sale<\/em>,\u00a0My Father\u2019s Keeper<\/em>,\u00a0Bees and Honey<\/em>,\u00a0Daughters of the Rebellion<\/em>,\u00a0A Shero\u2019s Journey or What Anacaona and Yemay\u00fa Taught Me<\/em>,\u00a0and Blowour<\/em>. She was a co-producer of Atlantic Theater Company\u2019s African Caribbean MixFest 2021<\/a> and has labored on tasks at FX and HBO. Yale Repertory Theatre is an expert theatre in residence at David Geffen School of Drama<\/a>. Dave Harris\u00a0is a poet and playwright from West Philly. Selected performs embody\u00a0Tambo & Bones<\/em>,\u00a0Exception to the Rule<\/em>, and\u00a0Everybody Black<\/em>. His first function movie,\u00a0Summertime<\/em>, premiered on the 2020 Sundance Film Festival<\/a> and was launched in 2021. Selected honors embody the 2019 Ollie Award<\/a>, The Lorraine Hansberry Award<\/a> and Mark Twain Award from The Kennedy Center, the International Commendation for The Bruntwood Prize<\/a>, the Venturous Fellowship from The Lark, and a Cave Canem<\/a> poetry fellowship amongst others. Dave is writing the function adaptation of\u00a0The Fortress of Solitude\u00a0<\/em>amongst a number of different function and tv tasks. His first full-length assortment of poetry,\u00a0Patricide<\/a><\/em>, was printed by Button Poetry.

Rachel Lynett is a queer Afro-Latine playwright, producer, and educating artist. Their performs have been featured at\u00a0San Diego Rep<\/a>, Magic Theatre<\/a>, Mirrorbox Theatre<\/a>, Laboratory Theatre of Florida<\/a>, Barrington Stage Company<\/a>, Theatre Lab<\/a>, Theatre Prometheus<\/a>, and others. Their performs\u00a0Last Night\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0HE DID IT<\/em>\u00a0made the 2020 Kilroy\u2019s List<\/a>. Their play\u00a0White People by the Lake<\/em>\u00a0was a 2022 Blue Ink Award<\/a> finalist. Lynett can also be the 2021 recipient of the Yale Drama Prize<\/a> for his or her play\u00a0Apologies to Lorraine Hansberry (You Too August Wilson<\/em>) and the\u00a02021 recipient of the National Latinx Playwriting award<\/a> for his or her play\u00a0Black Mexican.<\/em>

Sanaz\u00a0Toossi\u00a0is an Iranian-American playwright from Orange County, Calif. Her performs embody the critically acclaimed, award-winning\u00a0English<\/em> and\u00a0Wish You Were Here<\/em>. She is at the moment beneath fee at Atlantic Theater Company<\/a>, Roundabout Theatre Company<\/a>, Williamstown Theatre Festival<\/a>, Manhattan Theatre Club<\/a>, South Coast Repertory<\/a>, and Oregon Shakespeare Festival<\/a>.
