WASHINGTON \u2014 The Taliban have killed an Islamic State militant who was the \u201cmastermind\u201d behind a suicide assault at Kabul\u2019s worldwide airport in 2021 that killed 13 U.S. troops and scores of civilians throughout the United States\u2019 chaotic evacuation from the nation, U.S. officers mentioned on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The bombing occurred on Aug. 26, 2021, as U.S. troops had been making an attempt to assist Americans and Afghans flee within the chaotic aftermath of the Taliban\u2019s takeover, and compounded America\u2019s sense of defeat after 20 years of conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a key ISIS-K official directly involved in plotting operations like Abbey Gate, and now is no longer able to plot or conduct attacks,\u201d White House spokesperson John Kirby mentioned in an announcement, referring to the Abbey Gate entrance to the Kabul airport the place the blast occurred. He didn’t title the official.<\/p>\n

The Afghan affiliate of Islamic State, often called Islamic State Khorasan or ISIS-Okay, after an previous title of the area, is an enemy of the Taliban. Fighters loyal to Islamic State first appeared in japanese Afghanistan in 2014 and later made inroads in different areas.<\/p>\n
