Bassett labored at NBC affiliate WLBT, and through a March 8 broadcast she engaged in an on-air dialogue round Snoop\u2019s Cali wine line. At one level, Bassett stated the phrase, \u201cFo shizzle, my nizzle.\u201d <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNizzle\u201d is slang for the N-word, and Bassett is white. As the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/03\/25\/mississippi-anchor-taken-off-air-after-quoting-snoop-dogg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a><\/em> stories, Bassett additionally as soon as tweeted the phrase in 2011. Likewise, in October 2022, Bassett apologized after referencing a Black reporter\u2019s \u201cgrandmammy\u201d on air.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough not intentional, I now understand how my comment was both insensitive and hurtful. I have apologized to Carmen Poe,\u201d Bassett stated on the time. \u201cNow, I would like to apologize to you. That is not the heart of who I am. And for that, I humbly ask for your forgiveness and I apologize to everyone I have offended.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued: \u201cI will learn from this and participate in training so I can better understand our history and our people. I can\u2019t mend the hurt my comment caused. I pray you\u2019ll forgive me and that you\u2019ll extend grace through this awful mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Radio DJ Charlamagne Tha God got here to Bassett\u2019s protection, saying on <em>The Breakfast Club<\/em>: \u201cI don\u2019t think she should have been fired for that. She might not even know what \u2018nizzle\u2019 means, yo. Come on, like stop.
