Parks Canada has begun opening up bookings for nationwide parks in Alberta utilizing its up to date on-line reservation system.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe updated platform that we\u2019re running with functioned very well and as expected,\u201d stated Pamela Clark, who runs customer expertise for Jasper National Park. \u201cThe queuing, the site selection and the payment process operated very smoothly, even with the increased volumes that we experienced.\u201d<\/p>\n

Demand for campsites continues to extend and has been going up considerably for the final three or 4 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we launched (the Parks Canada online reservation system<\/a>) back in 2015, we had about 1,800 reservations on launch day,\u201d Clark stated of Jasper. \u201cNow, fast-forward to 2023, we\u2019re over 20,000 reservations on launch day.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople know we have a reservation system. They understand it\u2019s the best way of ensuring that they have a site that meets their needs,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we\u2019ve seen in the last four or five years, when it really started to pick up in 2019 and 2020 \u2014 even the use of our national parks \u2014 is people are gravitating towards the outdoor opportunities and just the natural escapes.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Jasper National Park, reservations<\/a> for front-country (serviced) websites launched March 16. Bookings for back-country websites launched March 20.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen users logged in at 8 a.m. last Thursday morning, there were about over 22,000 people in our waiting room but we were able to manage those volumes, and the average wait time was about 30 minutes,\u201d Clark stated.<\/p>\n

The phased strategy to web site bookings reduces general quantity and helps the reservation web site function extra easily. Clark stated Parks Canada uncoupled backcountry reservations for Banff and Jasper as a result of the mixed volumes created points within the reserving system.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe older system really wasn\u2019t able to keep up with the volumes that we\u2019ve been experiencing, especially in the last three or four years, volumes have increased substantially,\u201d Clark stated. \u201cEven from last year to this year, we experienced a volume increase for reservations of over 6,000.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Banff National Park, reservations for front-country websites launch on Thursday, March 23. Back-country bookings opened Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

As different areas open up, Clark has some ideas for folks seeking to guide a spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should get onto our website \u2014 Parks Canada reservations<\/a> \u2014 and look through all the tips on there. They should open up a profile if they don\u2019t have one yet or update their profile if they\u2019ve been on the system before. And they should get acquainted with the areas they want to be camping in.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave a plan. Have a couple backup plans, that\u2019s really important.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Jasper National Park has greater than 2,000 campsites, the second-largest stock of campgrounds managed below one park in North America, Clark stated. Together, the mountain nationwide parks have about 5,000 campsites. Despite an \u201cabundant\u201d stock, there\u2019s simply a lot demand in July and August.<\/p>\n
