After loads of homicide, kidnapping, and psychotic breaks, Joe and Kate have fled London and began anew in New York City. Joe has been extra forthcoming with Kate about his murderous methods than his previous loves, and he or she has accepted him as he&#8217;s. So, is Kate completely different? (Netflix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-3\">\u201cI think when we leave them at the end of the season, they\u2019re pretty happy with each other,\u201d Sera stated. \u201cWe don\u2019t know exactly how much he disclosed, but whatever he told her, she has not lived a life where she\u2019s going to be scared away by the word murder. Her dad was her dad, so her setpoint for behavior is a little different than most of us. But I think the answer is in the question, it\u2019s like, I\u2019m not sure that there is a \u2018one.\u2019 The \u2018one\u2019 has to be Joe not looking outside of himself for all of the stuff that really is about him, his own way that he moves to the world, his own honesty. So for as long as he continues to think he\u2019s going to have the perfect life because of some woman, I think there will be a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">In the ultimate moments of season 4, Joe seems on the window and sees Rhys\u2019 reflection within the mirror. Joe turned obsessive about the true Rhys Montrose after capturing Marienne. Following a psychotic break, Rhys turned a figment of Joe\u2019s creativeness, the supply of all of the darkness in Joe.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">\u201cI don\u2019t know for sure,\u201d Sera stated about whether or not or not Rhys shall be again in a possible <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/you-season-5-5044382\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">season 5<\/a>. \u201cI will say that we adore him. (Netflix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-6\">Sera famous that Joe has been constantly \u201clying to himself\u201d in earlier seasons about his intentions. \u201cThe only reason he hasn\u2019t learned from the 15 or so people he has killed is that he keeps telling himself that was a one-off, and he\u2019s not a murderer. We were very curious to know what it\u2019s like if he isn\u2019t impinged by that if he doesn\u2019t have the same feeling of guilt that he used to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\">The showrunner identified that the present pulled a <em>Fight Club<\/em> in season 4, and the Rhys\/Joe storyline had been within the works for a while. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of the reward and success for getting to a season 4,\u201d Sera instructed <strong>HollywoodLife<\/strong>. \u201cWhen you establish that your character\u2019s mental health is not improving over the course of this season. He isn\u2019t facing a lot of consequences necessarily in the outside world. He\u2019s getting away with a lot, but you can\u2019t run away from what you\u2019ve done on the inside. He has really eroded his own mind over the course of everything he\u2019s done that we\u2019ve seen. We knew we wanted to construct somebody who essentially could embody all of those misguided survival instincts, but also had none of the \u2018good Joe\u2019 hesitation. It was more of a question of: what does that person look like? Should we write a male or female character? Will they be British? Joe\u2019s obsession with Rhys showcased a brand new aspect to the character. Sera opened up about exploring other forms of \u201cdeep love\u201d in season 4.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-9\">\u201cWhen we first pitched the show, we said each season we will deep dive into love and obsession in some way,\u201d Sera stated. \u201cBut we always said there will always be romance. Joe is such a romantic guy and lives for romantic love. But there are a lot of kinds of very deep love, and there are a lot of ways to fall in love with somebody. This was sort of our erotomania season if you will. It just struck us that maybe he would become stalker-level obsessed with a public figure if he had a strong enough parasocial relationship with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\">One of the largest twists of season 4 was that Marienne by no means escaped Joe after he discovered her. He saved her locked in a cage in London. With Nadia\u2019s assist, Marienne was in a position to free herself from Joe\u2019s grasp by <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2023\/03\/10\/you-marienne-escapes-fakes-death-tati-gabrielle-season-4-interview\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">faking her loss of life<\/a>. <strong>HollywoodLife<\/strong> requested Sera if we\u2019ll see Marienne once more sooner or later.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5047342\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5047342\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/you-showrunner-sera-gamble-interview-embed2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5047342\" src=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/you-showrunner-sera-gamble-interview-embed2.jpg\" alt=\"Charlotte Ritchie\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\"\/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5047342\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Charlotte Ritchie as Kate. (Netflix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-11\">\u201cMarianne is not in a position to be motivated by vengeance,\u201d the showrunner careworn. \u201cShe knows that if he\u2019s aware that she\u2019s alive, then she and her daughter are in jeopardy and no one has fought harder to just have a basic ordinary life with a kid than she has. But that being said, we don\u2019t even really have this specific story worked out yet, but we have always had this idea that anyone who remains alive who knows the deal with Joe, especially people whose lives he\u2019s completely destroyed, of which there are several, any one of them could come back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-12\">Speaking of returns, Love and Beck returned in certainly one of Joe\u2019s nightmares as his suppressed reminiscences got here to the floor in his thoughts. \u201cWe felt strongly that we did want to bring back some of the aspects of the previous seasons of the show. I think it\u2019s kind of fun to see him show up clean-shaven at the end because it\u2019s like Joe 1.0-ish has returned to home to New York.
