The first race of the 2023 Formula 1 season is simply days away. But for AlphaTauri, it may be time to move again to the drafting board.<\/p>\n
Drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries struggled to remain aggressive with the sphere over the primary two observe classes. Tsunoda\u2019s greatest lap within the early session positioned him thirteenth, whereas de Vries settled for sixteenth.<\/p>\n
Things didn’t enhance within the night session, as Tsunoda discovered himself 18th, simply forward of his rookie teammate, who positioned nineteenth. <\/p>\n
In all, the staff concedes that they’ve a whole lot of work to do earlier than the Bahrain Grand Prix.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday was not the easiest day. The performance itself doesn\u2019t look good compared to our competitors so far,\u201d stated Tsunoda after the observe classes in an announcement offered to the media, together with SB Nation.<\/em> \u201cObviously, we don\u2019t know what programmes they ran, but on our side, there are limitations that we have identified.\u201d<\/p>\n His teammate shared that sentiment.<\/p>\n \u201cWe found ourselves a little on the back foot, but I\u2019m confident that if we stick together and continue improving on the areas we believe we need to find performance in, we can make a step forward,\u201d stated de Vries after the 2 observe classes.<\/p>\n AlphaTauri\u2019s Chief Race Engineer Jonathan Eddolls was reasonably blunt in his evaluation of their day. \u201cThe first session of the day is significantly hotter than the second session, and this tends to exaggerate any balance issues, so during FP1, we faced \u2018a bit of everything\u2019,\u201d stated Eddolls on the finish of the day. \u201cWe made several changes for FP2 which helped, and so too did the lower track temperature. The drivers still didn\u2019t have the perfect balance, but it wasn\u2019t too far away from the target. That said, the lap times were not competitive, so we have a significant amount of work ahead of us to understand why we seem to have taken a step back compared to the test.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the struggles, Tsunoda stays optimistic. \u201cThere is still one more practice session tomorrow and I\u2019m feeling optimistic. We\u2019ve definitely made a step forward compared to last year, so I\u2019m confident we can continue moving in the right direction. It seems our long-run pace is better than our short-run one, which is maybe good for Bahrain, but there is performance missing. We\u2019ll shift our focus now to qualifying, to improve as much as possible for tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
