This\u00a0startling new play opening within the Lyttelton Theatre on 20 April, is impressed by the making of Burton and Gielgud\u2019s Hamlet.<\/p>\n

Richard Burton, newly married to Elizabeth Taylor, is to play the title in an experimental new manufacturing of\u00a0Hamlet\u00a0<\/em>below John Gielgud\u2019s exacting route. But as rehearsals progress, two ages of theatre collide and the collaboration between actor and director quickly threatens to unravel.<\/p>\n

The Motive and the Cue<\/em>\u00a0was initially commissioned by Neal Street Productions and has been developed and co-produced by the National Theatre and Neal Street Productions. Set design is by\u00a0Es Devlin<\/strong>, costume designer is\u00a0Katrina Lindsay<\/strong>, lighting designer is\u00a0Jon Clark<\/strong>, composer is\u00a0Benjamin Kwasi Burrell<\/strong>, sound designer is\u00a0Paul Arditti<\/strong>, video designer is\u00a0Luke Halls<\/strong>, casting by\u00a0Alastair Coomer<\/strong>\u00a0CDG and\u00a0Naomi Downham<\/strong>\u00a0and affiliate director is\u00a0Zo\u00e9 Ford Burnett<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Motive and the Cue\u00a0<\/em>runs from 20 April to fifteen July with press night time on 2 May.<\/p>\n
