The \u2018Zappacast\u2019 podcast is celebrating the forthcoming\u00a0Frank Zappa<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>launch entitled\u00a0Zappa \u201980: Mudd Club\/Munich<\/em><\/strong><\/a> with a particular visitor look from frequent Zappa collaborator, David Logeman.<\/p>\n

During the episode<\/strong><\/a>, host Scott Parker and producer Phil Surkis are readily available to ask David about auditioning for Frank Zappa\u2019s band, the stamina it takes to play drums throughout a marathon Zappa efficiency, and his enjoying on the seminal album from Zappa, You Are What You Is<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I heard through the grapevine that Frank had this reputation of a lot of drummers going through the revolving door of the Zappa Band, so I didn\u2019t have any illusions about it at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fast ahead to the top of the grueling audition course of, and Zappa provided Logeman the gig in signature trend. \u201cWe were there for hours and hours. At the end, he [Zappa] says, \u2018You know, I think this is going to work, and I\u2019d like to hire you to come out. We don\u2019t have much time. I pay a thousand dollars a week. That\u2019s it. Doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re in the band 10 years or 10 days.\u2019\u201d Logeman responded by saying, \u201c\u2018Well, I\u2019m doing some sessions. I make that in a day or two.\u2019 And he goes, \u2018Doesn\u2019t make any difference.\u2019 He said, \u2018You have to let me know tonight. I\u2019m going to call you. Yes or no?\u2019 And he left.\u201d Suffice it to say, Logeman made the best determination in accepting Zappa\u2019s provide.<\/p>\n

Logeman additionally revealed the improvisational spirit of Zappa\u2019s bands throughout these days. \u201cSome shows he did stop on certain occasions, and we never knew when that would be, but there were also times when he didn\u2019t hardly say anything and we would be playing and playing and playing. And that was a complete shock to me. I was able to do it, but good thing I was in good shape too because man, I felt like I was half drummer, half athlete to be able to do this stuff, but it was sure was fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
