As the shameful\u00a0 all-white BAFTA winners listing<\/a> continues to make waves, Essence is spotlighting girls of coloration \u201cmaking their undeniable mark in film and television and forging forward their own definition of what it means to be a Black woman in Hollywood.\u201d Now in its sixteenth version, the Black Women in Hollywood awards luncheon is about to honor \u201cAbbott Elementary\u201d actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, \u201cThe Woman King\u201d helmer Gina Prince-Bythewood, \u201cTill\u201d star Danielle Deadwyler, Onyx Collective president Tara Duncan, and \u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever\u201d actress Dominique Thorne.<\/p>\n \u201cFor more than a decade and a half, Essence has championed the Black Women in Hollywood Awards to commemorate the Black women who are the story makers, storytellers, story-doers, and story-sharers that cultivate the entertainment ecosystem that the world cherishes and loves deeply,\u201d said Caroline Wanga, Essence Ventures, LLC president and CEO, per Variety.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Set to happen March 9 in LA, the occasion is described as an \u201c\u201coasis of sisterhood and a safe space for Black women to fully see, hear, and embrace one another.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cGrown-ish\u2019s\u201d\u00a0 Yara Shahidi and \u201cTill\u201d filmmaker Chinonye Chukwu are amongst this yr\u2019s presenters.<\/p>\n Wanga said,\u00a0\u201cWe are privileged to have this sacred platform that illuminates the on-going accomplishments of Black women at our annual luncheon in its 16th year since inception.
