American Theatre <\/em>is proud to be the venue for Theatrical Mustang,<\/strong> an independently produced podcast from actor-writer-activist Woodzick. Each month they\u2019ll carry listeners interviews with unbridled expertise and cultural trailblazers from throughout the nation.<\/p>\n

This month Woodzick interviews singer-songwriter and LGBTQ+ icon Jill Sobule<\/a>, who has simply opened her autobiographical present F*uck7thGrade<\/a><\/em> at New York City\u2019s wild challenge. In the present, for which she wrote the music and Liza Birkenmeier wrote the script, Sobule chronicles her rise to pop music stardom along with her track \u201cI Kissed A Girl.\u201d Part coming-out get together for Jill, half cheeky dare to music trade executives, the track launched onto the Billboard Top 20 and have become a bona fide hit. What occurred after that uncovered the misogyny and homophobia of the recording trade, and made Jill strike the track that made her well-known from her set lists. Ultimately it took Jill many years to play \u201cI Kissed a Girl\u201d once more. That is simply one of many journeys she traces in her new musical, and retraces with Woodzick on this episode.<\/p>\n
