ITHACA, N.Y.:<\/strong> Theatre critic Vinson Cunningham<\/a> of The New Yorker<\/em> has obtained the 2021-22 George Jean\u00a0Nathan\u00a0Award for Dramatic Criticism<\/a>. Endowed by esteemed critic and editor George Jean\u00a0Nathan, and conferred by the division chairs of English at Cornell<\/a>, Princeton<\/a>, and Yale<\/a> Universities, the\u00a0Nathan\u00a0Award is run by Cornell\u2019s Department of Literatures in English within the College of Arts and Sciences. The award comes with a $10,000 prize and commemorative trophy.<\/p>\n

The award committee praised Cunningham for his \u201clucid, lyrical, and evocative prose, through which he draws his readers into the performance moments he chronicles.\u201d The committee added that it was equally struck by his cogent remarks on artwork, politics, historical past, and tradition in relation to the modern theatre.\u00a0<\/p>\n
