Mixed-ish is based upon exactly that biraciality.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Barris went on so as to add, \u201cI think most of the people who\u2019ve studied the American landscape will say that some sort of mixed-race look will be in in the next 30-40 years.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Another level Kenya made was that his successes have \u201copened up a lot of doors for a lot of people to tell their own versions of stories.\u201d After all, \u201cthe only color in Hollywood that really matters is green.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMost of the things I\u2019ve done have been commercially successful in a way that, unfortunately, you know, our projects haven\u2019t been able to be. And I think it\u2019s opened up a lot of doors for a lot of other people to tell their versions of stories.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n With that being mentioned, although, Kenya did level out that he\u2019s keen on among the jokes about him and his work. Additionally, he famous that\u2014on the finish of the day\u2014he\u2019s dedicated to \u201cpromot[ing] Black culture in every form.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve heard the some of my favorite jokes, you know: you say biracial in the mirror three times, Kenya Barris appears. Drake\u2019s baby looks like Kenya Barris produced it. Like, I get it. I get the jokes. But I also feel like if you look at my body of work, everything I\u2019ve done has been to try and promote Black culture in every form and to show that we\u2019re not monolithic and there\u2019s so many versions of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Regarding the backlash Kenya Barris generally faces, he acknowledged that the Black group seems to \u201cpick and choose\u201d when to get caught up on somebody\u2019s biracial identification. He particularly famous a web-based dialog surrounding\u00a0#BlackAF\u00a0<\/em>star Rashida Jones and Barack Obama for instance.<\/p>\n \u201cSomeone said, \u2018Rashida Jones isn\u2019t a real Black woman.\u2019 And someone on Twitter then said, \u2018Rashida Jones is exactly like Barack Obama and he\u2019s our king.\u2019 And I feel like that was a really interesting thing to look at.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Barris continued, taking his argument again to the Civil Rights Movement.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like we pick and choose when to say, this is what it is and this is what\u2019s not. If you look at some of the biggest figures in the Civil Rights Movement they were biracial, and at that moment we weren\u2019t looking at how someone was lighter or this or that.
