Awards season is heating up. Earier this week, nominations for the Critics Choice Documentary Awards dropped<\/a>\u00a0and now The Cinema Eye Honors is asserting its first spherical of noms for doc movies and sequence<\/a>.<\/p>\n Five titles are nominated for Broadcast Film, and two are helmed by girls: \u201cDownfall: The Case Against Boeing,\u201d Rory Kennedy\u2019s investigation into the world\u2019s largest aerospace firm, and \u201cPlaying with Sharks,\u201d Sally Aitken\u2019s tribute to marine conservationist Valerie Taylor.<\/p>\n Of six nominees for Nonfiction Series, 4 are directed or co-directed by girls. Titles within the operating embrace \u201cBlack and Missing,\u201d Geeta Gandbhir and Samantha Knowles\u2019 exploration of how systemic racism impacts lacking individuals instances, and one other look contained in the felony justice system, \u201cMind Over Murder,\u201d Nanfu Wang\u2019s portrait of the Beatrice Six, who have been convicted within the rape and homicide of Helen Wilson and later exonerated by DNA proof. Also up for honors are Rachel Dretzin\u2019s \u201cKeep Sweet: Pray and Obey\u201d and Julia Willoughby Nason and Jenner Furst\u2019s \u201cLulaRich.\u201d The former tells the story of Warren Jeffs and the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the latter pulls again the curtain on LuLaRoe\u2019s clothes empire.<\/p>\n
