\u201cI hope [the movie makes] people have a deeper appreciation for how wonderful and annoying family can be,\u201d says Kristen Bell in our unique featurette for \u201cThe People We Hate at the Wedding.\u201d Directed by Emmy winner Claire Scanlon, the comedy sees American siblings Alice (Bell, \u201cThe Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window\u201d) and Paul (Ben Platt, \u201cDear Evan Hansen\u201d) begrudgingly head to the English countryside to attend the marriage of their estranged, rich half-sister, Eloise (Cynthia Addai-Robinson, \u201cThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power\u201d) with their mom, Donna (Allison Janney, \u201cMom\u201d).<\/p>\n
In our look behind the scenes, Bell tells us, \u201cThe characters of Alice, Donna, and Paul packed all of their dirty laundry for this trip.\u201d This is an unlucky actuality for Eloise. As Addai-Robinson explains, Eloise sees her wedding ceremony as \u201can opportunity for her to have that \u2026 picture of family that she\u2019s always wanted to have.\u201d Cue a drunken Alice puking on the road. Suffice to say, this isn\u2019t fairly the image of a household Eloise had in thoughts.<\/p>\n
But there\u2019s hope for the household but. \u201cI can\u2019t think of one family that hasn\u2019t been affected by this pandemic, and I can\u2019t think of a more perfect movie to accentuate that coming together is really a wonderful way to heal,\u201d Scanlon observes. \u201cNobody is flawless, everyone makes mistakes, and when you hide your mistakes and pretend they\u2019re not there, that\u2019s when comedy flourishes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scanlon gained an Emmy for steering \u201cThe Office.\u201d Her different small display credit embody \u201cNever Have I Ever,\u201d \u201cGLOW,\u201d and Bell-starrer \u201cThe Good Place.\u201d She\u00a0made her function debut with 2018 rom-com \u201cSet It Up.\u201d<\/p>\n
