\u201cWomen Talking\u201d doesn\u2019t hit theaters till December however writer-director Sarah Polley is already attracting loads of awards consideration for the star-studded drama.\u00a0She\u2019s been named Director of the Year by the Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF), and can obtain the glory at PSIFF\u2019s annual awards gala January 5.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe past two recipients of the Palm Springs director award \u2014 Jane Campion last year for \u2018The Power of the Dog\u2019 and Chlo\u00e9 Zhao for \u2018Nomadland\u2019 \u2014 each went on to win the Best Director Oscar,\u201d Deadline notes.<\/a><\/p>\n

Based on Miriam Toews\u2019 2018 novel of the identical identify, \u201cWomen Talking\u201d is about in a distant Mennonite colony and tells the story of a gaggle of girls struggling to reconcile their religion within the aftermath of a collection of sexual assaults perpetrated by the colony\u2019s males. The movie made its world premiere at Telluride Film Festival and hits theaters December 2.\u00a0Rooney Mara (\u201cCarol\u201d), Claire Foy (\u201cThe Crown\u201d), and Jessie Buckley (\u201cThe Lost Daughter\u201d) star.<\/p>\n

Polley is up for Best Screenplay on the Gotham Awards<\/a>\u00a0and extra award nominations are anticipated to observe.<\/p>\n

PSIFF pageant chairman Howard Matzner commented,\u00a0\u201cSarah Polley continues her outstanding work as a writer and director in her latest film \u2018Women Talking.\u2019 She brings together a stellar cast in her adaptation of the Miriam Toews book, taking us on a cinematic journey filled with raw emotions and performances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Polley made her characteristic directorial debut with 2006\u2019s \u201cAway From Her,\u201d for which she acquired an Oscar nod for tailored screenplay. She adopted it up with 2011 Michelle Williams-starrer \u201cTake This Waltz.\u201d Polley landed a DGA Award nomination for her 2012 doc \u201cStories We Tell.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also an actor, Polley\u2019s on-screen credit embrace \u201cDawn of the Dead\u201d and \u201cThe Sweet Hereafter.\u201d<\/p>\n

PSIFF will happen January 5-16.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
