I must have been quite young because I didn\u2019t know what the word \u2018locomotion\u2019 meant. It was just this weird new word. At first we were called Anonymous, which we thought was very clever. By the end we were called Shamus Speaks. The name was inspired by a children\u2019s book called <em>George Speaks<\/em>, which is about a baby who can talk. And I thought Seamus sounded Irish and poetic. I was 13 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/blur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blur<\/a> were playing. I could not see them at all. I had to be on my dad\u2019s shoulders even to see the big screens. At no point did I see any of the band in the flesh.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>The gig that jogs my memory of being an actor<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Leeds Festival 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were filming <em>The Festival<\/em> and I got to go onstage for a scene. I remember the producer saying \u2018if they start throwing bottles of piss at you, you can come off.\u2019 But they didn\u2019t and it was amazing. I think they were chanting \u2018bumder\u2019 at one point. I guess that\u2019s a win?\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>The tune that jogs my memory of dwelling<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Sam Cooke \u2013 \u2018What A Wonderful World\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember my dad singing this when I was little. He would often sing \u2013 a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/bob-dylan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bob Dylan<\/a> mostly. My family are quite musical and my brothers all play musical instruments. I played the violin and always hated it. I\u2019d put in the minimum effort. I had clarinet lessons at one point and it was basically just luggage to cart around. It\u2019s so funny and so clever. I never understood it though. When I was at school and it came out, I thought it was a bit like \u2018I\u2019m too sexy for my shirt\u2019. \u2018Oh, he wants to sleep with common people, does he?\u2019 I thought he just wanted to hump common people. I thought that would be so cool. Why didn\u2019t <em>The Inbetweeners<\/em> do a comedy single? I remember singing it when we were doing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/features\/tv-interviews\/fresh-meat-at-10-cast-interview-3052022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Fresh Meat<\/em><\/a> in Manchester. We went to karaoke and I told everyone they had to sit down and be quiet while I sang. And they did! It\u2019s a very slow song. I\u2019ve always leaned towards the maudlin end of things. But then it was just 20 years of pure shit. I suppose the optimism lasted until 9\/11 and then the Iraq War. I think it will be quite fitting for a funeral, right? \u2018Well, that went quickly!\u2019 I saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/features\/tv-interviews\/brian-blessed-soundtrack-of-my-life-interview-3333538\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brian Blessed<\/a> refused to answer this one for his Soundtrack Of My Life interview. He said he was never going to die.
