\n\t\u201cBlondie\u201d lead vocalist Debbie Harry<\/a> opened up about her movie profession at International Film Festival Rotterdam<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am not really fluent in the film industry, but I have been fortunate to get scripts from the directors I admire and trust, and who scare me a little. It\u2019s a small selection of interesting films that are a bit odd. I guess my oddness fits into that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNothing was odder than David Cronenberg\u2019s \u201cVideodrome.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe didn\u2019t know what \u2018virtual\u2019 was. We had no term [for it] back then. We didn\u2019t know what my character was, but we knew who she was and what she was doing to others. I think Jimmy Woods had more of a problem with it than me. Let\u2019s face it: Cronenberg is out there and always has been,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere was no ending to the film and some people were getting pretty uptight about it. They really badgered David: \u2018What\u2019s going to happen!?\u2019 But the idea was to work with Cronenberg and that\u2019s how it was going to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tStill, at occasions she felt \u201cway over her head\u201d as an actor.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was just trying to keep up,\u201d she admitted. Prior to \u201cVideodrome,\u201d Harry was forged in Marcus Reichert\u2019s \u201cUnion City.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe film was shown at Cannes and then it got torn apart. There was no saving it after that. I am happy I made it, but he was the one who suffered,\u201d she stated. Later, they reunited on a movie model of his play \u201cPercy Lifar,\u201d by no means accomplished as a result of his passing.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI had a feeling of joy when I finished and you can take that anywhere you want. Then, a few days later, he was gone and the film disappeared. I never saw a single shot. Would I like to see it? Yes \u2013 before everyone else sees it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe didn\u2019t want \u2018Hairspray\u2019 to end. Some of these kids were actors, some were wannabes, some were sex maniacs and they just wanted to dance. We all felt like that and I didn\u2019t even get to do any dancing. Normally, if the music is on, I am moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a prolonged dialog with \u201cSo Unreal\u201d director Amanda Kramer<\/a>, \u201can essay film about cyberspace and technophobia,\u201d which she narrated, Harry addressed a few of her insecurities. Giger had free rein \u2013 we didn\u2019t try to edit him in any way. He just got an Oscar for \u2018Alien\u2019! He was Swiss. I don\u2019t think learning English was his priority and we weren\u2019t learning German fast enough, so it was all about energy,\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n

\n\tAndy Warhol taught her the right way to hear: \u201cHe was always saying: \u2018Oh really?\u2019 It spurred people on. You were being understood by Andy Warhol and he was asking for more.\u201d He additionally confirmed her the right way to embrace the brand new.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe spirit of doing something different is what Chris [Stein, co-founder of \u2018Blondie\u2019] and I really adhered to. That\u2019s what your film is about, too. \n\tRecalling being \u201cspellbound\u201d by The Doors and Tina Turner \u2013 \u201cshe walked right past me and I almost fainted. These moments, right?\u201d \u2013 Harry continues to be betting on real-life experiences.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe audience is extremely important to how the show goes and how the players play. I know that when I look out, and I do actually watch you, that will direct my performance. The guys are always looking as well, although we are not looking for the same thing,\u201d she laughed.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are animals. We smell, we hear, we see and we feel. That\u2019s the part that\u2019s missing. I know it\u2019s part of the progress and I am an old fart, but I like to feel the heat. I like being an animal.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
