\n\tThe movie is structured as an exploration of what it takes to like your self fiercely as a disabled individual in an ableist world. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIt was a very challenging process, even though it was dreamlike in a good way in other ways. The big challenges were internal challenges \u2013 being worried about offending people, it\u2019s controversial and I\u2019m saying things that no one\u2019s dared to say, or nobody has yet been able to say, on such a scale,\u201d Glendining stated. \u201cI really wanted this film to be a battle cry for disabled people. And I also didn\u2019t want to alienate non-disabled people. And I really didn\u2019t want to upset for example, parents of disabled children. I knew that it was gonna upset some people. When you\u2019re really calling something out in a way that people aren\u2019t used to, it\u2019s confronting. And I just care about people\u2019s feelings. I didn\u2019t want to hurt anyone. But I also really wanted to say what I had to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

And I think people are actually ready to experience authentic disabled storytelling in a way that they haven\u2019t ever been perhaps.\u201d <\/p>\n
\n\tGlendining has beforehand written and directed scripted shorts and is now writing her first fiction function \u201cCuriosities of a Fool,\u201d which she may even direct. The movie is partly financed by the BFI Film Fund and can be produced by \u201cIs There Anybody Out There?\u201d producer Janine Marmot. The 1600s-set historic drama takes place within the courtroom of King Charles I and follows Richard Gibson, a proficient artist and a courtroom dwarf.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s really about his journey to overcoming his internalized ableism and finding community with the court fools of the palace, so it\u2019s really similar themes to my documentary but a very different story,\u201d Glendining stated. \u201cIt\u2019s a big, dramatic, heartfelt historical drama that\u2019s about ableism and disabled kinship. I think it\u2019s something that nobody\u2019s ever done before. And I\u2019m incredibly excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
