From the recognizable names who have been up for key roles to the fallout of Marissa\u2019s tragic dying in season 3, <strong>Hollywood Life<\/strong> has the final word information to this stellar and nostalgic journey down reminiscence lane.<\/p>\n<h2>Olivia Wilde Was Up for the Role of Marissa<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">While <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/celeb\/olivia-wilde\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Olivia Wilde<\/strong><\/a> would go on to play Alex, the Bait Shop worker who turns into romantically concerned with Seth and Marissa, she was initially up for the function of Marissa Cooper. Not as experienced, just better,\u201d Patrick says. Josh provides, \u201cWe thought she was phenomenal and really liked her. Ultimately, though, Olivia comes from a place of real strength. Marissa was someone who needed to have a real vulnerability to her. Ryan is stepping into her life and trying to help rescue Marissa from the dark forces that are swirling around her. And Olivia was somebody who did not need saving in any way, shape, or form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-6\"><em>The O.C.<\/em> workforce had \u201ctons of auditions\u201d for Marissa, together with <strong>Kate Mara<\/strong>. Josh had a line within the script the place Marissa is described as \u201cthe most heartbreakingly beautiful girl in the world and knows it, and is a little embarrassed by it.\u201d He notes, \u201cMarissa needed to be in this world where everybody\u2019s attractive, but there\u2019s just something about her that feels alien. That feels elevated.\u201d And that\u2019s how Mischa landed the function.<\/p>\n<h2>Andrew McCarthy Was within the Mix for Jimmy Cooper<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\">It\u2019s exhausting to think about anybody however <strong>Tate Donovan<\/strong> as down-on-his-luck Jimmy Cooper. During the casting course of, Brat Pack member <strong>Andrew McCarthy<\/strong> was within the combine to play Julie\u2019s husband.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-8\">\u201cWe had a really good conversation with Andrew McCarthy, who ended up not being Jimmy,\u201d Stephanie says within the e book. \u201cHe said very interesting things about the character that we actually incorporated into the story. We had talked about Jimmy Cooper \u2018doing the right thing,\u2019 by marrying Julie when she got pregnant. Andrew McCarthy was like, \u2018For Jimmy\u2019s parents, \u2018the right thing\u2019 is getting an abortion. They do not want him to marry Julie, so if he\u2019s marrying Julie, he\u2019s doing that for another reason that\u2019s not pleasing his parents. His parents want him to marry someone from his own social strata and have children in his thirties. They are not rooting for this.\u2019 And I thought that was really interesting because Andrew McCarthy was the same age as the character and had gone through that echelon and experienced those values in a way that felt like what he was saying was true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-9\"><em>Pretty In Pink<\/em> star <strong>Jon Cryer<\/strong> learn for the function of Sandy Cohen, which went to<strong> Peter Gallagher<\/strong>. \u201c2003 was the year the Brat Pack was going to do TV,\u201d Josh says.<\/p>\n<h2>Chris Pine Didn\u2019t Get the Role of Ryan Due to Acne<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\">Casting the function of Ryan Atwood proved troublesome for the casting workforce. I hate saying this, but it\u2019s the truth: Chris Pine was at the age where he was experiencing really bad skin problems,\u201d Patrick says. \u201cAnd it was at that point where it looked insurmountable. And as a kid who grew up with horrible skin, it just broke my heart. But Chris Pine\u2019s fine now. He\u2019s all right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-12\"><strong>Garrett Hedlund<\/strong> was additionally within the working to play Ryan. \u201cAnd then in the middle of that process, he got cast as the lead of <em>Troy<\/em>,\u201d Josh reveals.<\/p>\n<h2>The Olsen Twins \u2018Rescued\u2019 Rachel Bilson<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-13\">During the primary season, the solid turned family names. The \u201cCore Four\u201d began to get an amazing quantity of fan and press consideration. <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2021\/10\/26\/rachel-bilson-adam-brody-reunite-the-oc-podcast-video\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Rachel Bilson<\/strong><\/a> recollects by accident leaving <strong>Adam Brody<\/strong> behind at <em>TRL<\/em> when he was \u201cgetting swarmed by a mass mob.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-14\">She provides, \u201cAnd the Olsen twins rescued me and threw me in their car. I left Brody behind because I was so nervous and didn\u2019t know what to do. And they were like, \u2018Don\u2019t you need to get your boyfriend?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Oh, yeah, we\u2019ve got to go get him.\u2019 He was being mobbed.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>The Paternity of Theresa\u2019s Son: Ryan or Eddie?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-15\">The Theresa storyline is extremely contentious amongst <em>The O.C.<\/em> followers, particularly Ryan and Marissa shippers. At the tip of the primary season, Ryan goes again to Chino after studying Theresa is pregnant. In the season 2 premiere, Theresa fakes a miscarriage, which pushes Ryan again to Chino.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-16\">Fans have questioned for years concerning the paternity of Theresa\u2019s son. Is the daddy Ryan or her abusive ex Eddie? Ryan visits Theresa in season 2, and her younger son appears suspiciously like Ryan, which makes followers assume that Ryan is the daddy.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-17\">Both Josh and Stephanie keep that Eddie is the daddy of Theresa\u2019s son. However, <strong>Navi Rawat<\/strong>, who performed Theresa, sees issues in a different way. \u201cI always thought that it was Ryan\u2019s,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd Theresa didn\u2019t want to tell him because she loved him as a friend, and because it was a decision that she ultimately made on her own. I think she did that in the spirit of their friendship, and in the spirit of loving him enough to set him free.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Marissa\u2019s Death Was the \u2018Biggest Mistake\u2019<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-18\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2023\/01\/11\/mischa-barton-rachel-bilson-marissa-death-the-oc-video\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marissa\u2019s gut-wrenching dying<\/a> within the season 3 finale modified the course of the present ceaselessly. Mischa admits that being killed off was \u201ca little bit of a bummer. But it was sort of <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2019\/05\/23\/mischa-barton-the-oc-death-marissa-needed-to-die-burnout\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">headed in the direction<\/a> that it was becoming inevitable, I guess. The character was just doing too much. And I think they ran out of places for her to go. It was not the best thing in the world, [but] there wasn\u2019t much you could do at that point. It was whether she could sail off into the sunset, or die. At that point, I guess it\u2019s better to have the more dramatic ending.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5203595\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5203595\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/the-oc-revelations-embed-3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5203595\" src=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/the-oc-revelations-embed-3.jpg?quality=100\" alt=\"The O.C.\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\"\/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5203595\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rachel Bilson, Adam Brody, Mischa Barton, and Ben McKenzie in season 1. (Warner Bros Tv\/Kobal\/Shutterstock)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-19\"><strong>Kelly Rowan<\/strong>, who performed Kirsten Cohen, says that she believes killing off Marissa was \u201cthe biggest mistake they were going to make. That whole foursome, the chemistry with those four actors, screwing with that, I thought was a big mistake. I don\u2019t know the specifics of why that decision was made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-20\">Stephanie remembers \u201cbawling\u201d when she watched Marissa\u2019s dying scene for the primary time. \u201cI was like, What have we done? Not just that it was sad that Marissa died, but that we made a terrible, terrible mistake,\u201d she admits.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-21\">Josh acknowledges that they might have revived Marissa in season 4. \u201cThat said, Season Four, the show did have a creative rebirth as a result of that. But was it worth it?\u201d he wonders.
